Monotypes

While in Tunisia, unable to import a press, I invented my own etching process. I cut silhouettes into a foam-like sheet and press or burn found objects into the surface, sometimes all the way through. I apply layers of paint and metallic wax, then print on black Canson paper, where the dark negative space enhances the metallic highlights. The results are unpredictable but rewarding: natural textures transform—a twig becomes a vein, a cactus skeleton becomes hair. What I love most is the moment of anticipation when I pull the paper from the plate, wondering "did this one work!?"
